js13kGames

js13kGames

Website: js13kgames.com

Js13kGames is a JavaScript coding competition for HTML5 game developers. The fun part of the compo is the file size limit set to 13 kilobytes. It runs online for a month between August 13th and September 13th, every single year since 2012. Being able to build a game within the limit is quite the challenge, but a rewarding one - devs emphasize the fact that limitations spawns creativity.

Crucial feature is that all the source code of submitted games have to be available in a readable form on GitHub, so anyone can learn from it. There's also the Resources page where, beside the huge list of various resources you can use to create your game, you can read post mortems from other devs who explain what went good and what could have been improved in their entries.

Competition is getting more and more popular over the years, with plenty of prizes, great experts, new categories like WebXR and Web Monetization, while still being friendly and welcoming to all the new developers wanting to join.

Gamedev.js

Gamedev.js

Website: gamedevjs.com

Global Gamedev.js initiative focuses on promoting HTML5 game development.

Currently it's just the news on the home page, but recently the first edition of the online Gamedev.js Jam happened, and future plans include running Gamedev.js Survey to learn about the current state of the market, and organizing an online Gamedev.js Conference too.

Gamedev.js Weekly

Gamedev.js Weekly

Website: gamedevjsweekly.com

Gamedev.js Weekly newsletter is published every single Friday since January 2014. It's a weekly summary of interesting articles, tutorials, tools, resources, demos, games, and more delivered right to your inbox.

I'm quite happy with the fact that many times interesting links are sent over by the readers themselves, so to a point newsletter contents can be considered a community effort.

It is open for sponsorship opportunities and job listings too, so if you want to advertise anything related to JavaScript or games, feel free to reach out.

Neuroshima Hex Apps

Neuroshima Hex Apps

Website: nshex.enclavegames.com

Neuroshima Hex is a physical board game, and we're huge fans of them (which includes running NeuroshimaHex.pl fan site since 2010). At some point we've decided to mix both of our passions and create a few useful apps for other board game fans and players.

So far we've released the NSHex Counter - an app to count the tiles used by you and your opponent, so you can keep track of what was used and what's yet to come. Next up are: Randomizer (to randomly draw armies), Roulette (our original, digital addon), and Aftermath (entirely new minigame).

Warsaw Open Device Lab

Warsaw Open Device Lab

Website: devicelab.enclavegames.com

Warsaw Open Device Lab is established to help the local developer community to be able to test their work on a range of various devices.

If you're building a responsive website or mobile game and want it to work correctly on the popular devices, then you need to test it yourself. Instead of trying to collect all the devices on your own you can visit the local Open Device Lab and use the available resources for testing. Don't worry about owning the proper devices and just focus on the most important part of your work which is development.
