A Changing Landscape for Gaming Announcements

This year could prove to be an exciting year for gaming as a whole with a number of big releases set to come and a change in new hardware that would also bring about exciting opportunities – mobile will certainly continue to lead the way as casinos ohne oasis and many others have only thrived in popularity – but the big excitement will come on the more dedicated platforms with some exciting prospects just around the corner. Two recent announcements however have shown that there may be a changing approach for big gaming announcements.

One of the most recent has been with the recently acquired Blizzard Entertainment, with Microsoft in the process of acquiring the rights to its biggest IPs and other publishers too, the company has a history of making the biggest announcements through it’s own offline event at BlizzCon or through other large press releases, but the announcement of it’s newest IP in the pipeline of a survival game came in the form of an unexpected blog post, quite the bombshell to drop on players that the companies first IP launch in a number of years would be announced via something more informal.

Not the only one to follow this route, however, as another surprising announcement came from Respawn Entertainment known for their work on Apex Legends, Titanfall, and a number of other games too – the partnership between Electronic Arts, Lucasfilm Games, and Respawn with be bringing another collection of Star Wars games to the market and given how exciting the Titanfall series are and the huge success of Apex Legends, it could open a whole new door for the Star Wars franchise particularly with online play. The post stated that work has already begun on three different games, but to come through a blog post seems just as interesting as the previous announcement too, as these big announcements usually take a different form.

It’s unlikely that this is going to lead to a more permanent change for the way game announcements are made, but the personal touch by having them in a blog post a bit closer to home is refreshing – even larger announcements for upcoming games like Lost Ark have been made with a simple blog post and individuals are paying attention – it helps to provide a bit more of a close relationship between the developers and the readers, and rather than something disconnected like a game review platform which can be spun to a different narrative, often holds all the truth that’s needed.
